What determines the price of fuel?
Petrol prices vary over time and among states and regions. In addition to differences in state and local taxes, other factors contribute to regional differences in petrol prices, including distance from supply, supply disruptions, and retail competition and operating costs. Benchmark prices for petrol and diesel are linked to crude oil prices because crude oil is a major production input. Crude oil is an internationally traded commodity, and its price is determined by changing global demand and supply factors.
Which fuel is most economical?
Diesel cars were more efficient by an average of about 5 miles per gallon (mpg). However, the most fuel efficient cars are fully hybrid, achieving almost 7mpg more than the average diesel vehicle.
